Romanian police launch safety inspections at schools

Police in Romania have launched safety and prevention operations targeting educational institutions in Dâmbovița and Mureș counties to coincide with the new school year.

In Dâmbovița, authorities inspected 106 pre-university educational units to prevent school violence and drug trafficking. The operation involved over 1,600 students and 90 teachers. Police utilized canine units at four high schools in Târgoviște to combat drug use. During the inspections, officers identified 219 individuals, checked 167 vehicles, and issued 40 fines totaling over 10,500 lei. Additionally, staff at nearby commercial units were instructed on prohibitions regarding the sale of tobacco, nicotine products, alcohol, and energy drinks to minors.

In Mureș, road police are focusing on student transport safety and accident prevention. Officers are verifying the legality of student transport services, vehicle technical conditions, and driver conduct. Efforts are also concentrated near pedestrian crossings and school zones to ensure drivers respect pedestrian priority and avoid illegal parking that obstructs visibility. Police continue to conduct informative activities to encourage drivers to reduce speed near schools.
