Romanian police operation Jupiter targets illegal gambling and tax fraud

In Deleni, Constanța, investigators executed a search warrant at the home of a man accused of running an illegal online gambling scheme – a “tombola” offering cars, cash prizes and tickets priced between 100 and 200 lei, with up to 300 tickets per participant. The suspect lacks a gambling licence and the financial damage is still being assessed.

In Timiș, a 39‑year‑old businessman was detained after nine domicile searches. He faces two criminal cases: one for tax evasion that allegedly caused a loss of roughly 2.1 million lei to the state budget, and another for construction‑sector fraud involving falsified payment orders, estimated at about 200 000 lei. Police seized accounting records, imposed a protective seizure on two of his properties, and held him for 24 hours pending further investigation.
