Romanian police levy 1,000+ traffic fines and suspend dozens of licences in July

Romanian traffic police conducted a series of roadside checks across several counties in early July. In Argeș County, a 39‑year‑old driver was stopped on DN73 for travelling at 121 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, driving a vehicle with a suspended registration. He received a fine of 1,822.5 lei and a 120‑day driving ban.

In Sălaj County, two drivers were caught operating vehicles while their licences were suspended and were charged with a criminal offence. Similar checks in Mureș resulted in more than 220 sanctions.

The Maramureș County operation recorded 579 violations, issuing roughly 500 fines and suspending 38 licences – three for 120 days after exceeding the speed limit by over 70 km/h, and thirty‑five for 90 days after exceeding it by over 50 km/h.

In Satu Mare, a man who had consumed five to six beers was found with a blood‑alcohol level of 1.49 g/L after crashing his car into a house‑front bridge. He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison (suspended) and barred from driving for two years.

Timiș County police carried out a sweep on DN 6, issuing 177 penalties—108 for speeding—and confiscating four licences and eleven vehicle registration certificates. All actions were aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents.
