Romanian police seize 113,000 illegal cigarettes in Operation Jupiter

On 11 June, police from the Economic Crimes Investigation Service of the Sibiu County Police carried out a large‑scale raid under the national “Operation Jupiter”. The operation, overseen by the Sibiu Prosecutor’s Office, executed 19 search warrants – 13 in Sibiu County and 6 in Botoșani County – plus eight vehicle searches and four summonses.

Authorities confiscated 113,208 untaxed cigarettes, estimated at about 170,500 lei, and seized cash worth 60,825 lei and €1,000 as protective measures. A 54‑year‑old woman from Rășinari was detained for 24 hours as part of the investigation, which continues to identify all individuals involved in the illegal trade of marked tobacco products.
