Romanian police seize 30 kg of cannabis and cocaine in A1 highway bust
Prosecutors of DIICOT detained two men – a 57‑year‑old Ukrainian citizen and a 23‑year‑old Romanian – on suspicion of international and domestic drug trafficking. The suspects had introduced around 26 kg of cannabis and 4 kg of cocaine into Romania via the Nădlac border crossing on 4 June 2026, hiding the substances in a specially built compartment under a false floor of a car.
The 57‑year‑old Ukrainian was later caught in the act on the A1 highway transporting the drugs, which were intended for sale. The operation was carried out by the Bucharest Organized Crime Brigade together with the Highway Police Brigade and the General Police Directorate of Bucharest. The two individuals were placed in preventive detention, with prosecutors proposing a 30‑day arrest pending further judicial review.
