Romanian police seize drunk driver and fake‑plate cars in Alba and Satu Mare

In Alba County, police using the e‑SIGUR traffic‑monitoring system conducted checks on 17‑18 July 2026. Officers stopped a 20‑year‑old driver on Bradului Street in Șibot who was using provisional licence plates that belonged to another vehicle. In a separate stop on 18 July in Cricău, a 40‑year‑old driver tested 0.72 mg/L alcohol on an etilotest and was taken to hospital for further evaluation.

In Negrești‑Oaș, Satu Mare County, a man was convicted after driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of 1.36 g/L. He lost control of his car and crashed into a house fence, destroying about three metres of the structure. No one was injured. The court sentenced him to a ten‑month suspended prison term with two‑year supervised probation.

The incidents highlight ongoing police efforts to enforce traffic safety laws in Romania, targeting both drunk driving and the use of falsified vehicle registration plates.
