Romanian police seize illegal firearms and ammunition in Mehedinți poaching raid

Police from the Weapons, Explosives and Hazardous Substances Service carried out a series of raids in Mehedinți County under the national Operation “Jupiter”. Seven search warrants were executed at homes of individuals suspected of illegal hunting activities, leading to the detention of two men aged 34 and 49.

Investigators recovered more than 200 live cartridges of various calibers, a smooth‑bore 12‑gauge hunting shotgun, illegal P1 class pyrotechnic devices, five chamois trophies, a thermal‑vision camera and other evidence. Authorities say the weapons and ammunition were stored unlawfully and used to facilitate poaching in the region. The case is being pursued on charges of illegal possession of arms and ammunition as well as wildlife poaching.
