Romanian police seize multiple drunk‑driving offenders across counties

Police in several Romanian counties detained drivers for operating vehicles while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. In Pitești, a 52‑year‑old man was caught twice in one night driving with a suspended licence and a blood‑alcohol level above the legal limit, refusing to provide biological samples both times. He was held for 24 hours pending prosecution.

In Hunedoara County, officers opened four criminal cases after stopping drivers without licences, with blood‑alcohol concentrations up to 0.63 mg/l and one suspect found with psychoactive substances. The offenders faced fines, licence suspensions and medical examinations for sample collection.

Cluj County conducted the European ROADPOL "Alcohol & Drugs" operation from 15–21 June, testing about 1,800 motorists. Fourteen drivers tested positive – 13 for alcohol and one for drugs – resulting in penalties, licence withdrawals and criminal investigations for those with high alcohol levels.
