Romanian police seize over 200,000 lei of orthopedic implants at Piatra Neamț hospital

Police were called by hospital director Alexandru Pătrașcu after concerns that medical devices were being stored improperly at the County Emergency Hospital in Piatra Neamț. During a hygiene inspection, officers uncovered 13 bags containing orthopedic implants, osteosynthesis kits and other specialty medical supplies in the lockers of three orthopaedic doctors and one external orthopaedist who also works as a physiotherapist. The material was valued between 200,000 and 400,000 lei. Two of the doctors are already subjects of a separate bribery investigation, and a criminal case for embezzlement has now been opened. The police investigation remains ongoing.
