Romanian President Blames Russia after Drone Explosion in Constanta Port

A maritime drone exploded in the Black Sea port of Constanța, Romania, after self‑detonating in the harbor. The incident caused no casualties but prompted the rapid evacuation of the area. President Nicuşor Dan said the unmanned craft was Ukrainian, part of a group of four drones loaded with explosives that lost control, and blamed Russia as the aggressor in the wider war.

Dan outlined that emergency teams arrived within an hour and that investigations will determine how the drones reached the port, with findings expected in 7‑10 days. He emphasized Romania’s ongoing NATO cooperation, noting upcoming NATO sessions on Black Sea security, recent naval exercises, and plans to receive additional equipment to counter similar threats. The president reiterated that Romania, as a NATO member with a Black Sea coastline, will maintain heightened vigilance and work closely with allies to protect citizens and infrastructure.
