Romanian President Dan says Russian-made Geran‑2 drone hit residential building in Galaţi

Romanian President Nicolae Dan confirmed that a Geran‑2 unmanned aerial vehicle, identified as Russian‑manufactured, crashed into a residential building in Galaţi near the Ukraine border on Thursday night. The technical analysis by Romanian experts matched the drone’s serial markings, components, fuel and materials to previously found Geran‑2 units on Romanian soil.

The impact injured a 14‑year‑old boy and a 35‑year‑old woman, who were taken to hospital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked President Dan for the clear disclosure. The Russian embassy in Romania accused Ukraine of provocation, while President Vladimir Putin said Russia could not confirm the drone’s origin without further evidence.

The incident has raised tensions in the region and prompted calls for further investigation into cross‑border drone activity.
