Romanian President Nicușor Dan Releases 2025 Asset Declaration
Romanian President Nicușor Dan has made public his asset declaration for the fiscal year 2025, detailing his finances, assets, debts and the funding of his 2025 presidential campaign. The declaration shows current‑account balances of roughly 1.28 million lei and €167, held at Banca Transilvania, BCR and Salt Bank. He reports a salary of 93,567 lei as president and a former mayoral allowance of 127,146 lei. Assets include a 7,460 sqm urban plot in Predeal bought in 2007 and a Citroën car from 1986; he does not own a house. Liabilities consist of a €100,000 loan from Garanti Bank due in 2032 and smaller debts to private individuals amounting to €52,000, plus a €20,000 loan he granted to Gabriel Istrate.
The campaign financing section reveals that Dan took out loans of about 58.5 million lei and received donations of roughly 3.6 million lei. He spent 57.3 million lei on the campaign, leaving about 1.2 million lei in his personal account, which he used for pre‑campaign expenses. The Electoral Authority reimbursed most of his campaign spending but short‑changed him by about 930,000 lei; Dan has sued the authority and won in the first instance but has not yet received the remaining amount. Although he pledged to donate the 1.2 million lei surplus to an NGO, he has not yet identified a recipient.
