Romanian President Nicușor Dan to travel to Kiev for anti‑drone talks

Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced that he will travel to Kyiv on 15 July to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky. The visit will focus on operationalising a bilateral anti‑drone cooperation, building on a SAFE programme that earmarks €200 million for drone‑related systems and technical exchanges.

Dan said the upcoming technical delegation will aim to convert earlier agreements into contracts and begin production of anti‑drone equipment. He also addressed the June explosion of a naval drone near the oil terminals of the Port of Constanța, which caused no casualties. Ukraine had claimed the drone belonged to its fleet and was hijacked by Russia. Dan affirmed that the drone was not targeting Romanian territory and highlighted newly established direct communication channels between Romanian and Ukrainian defence structures.

The president expects the Ukrainian delegation’s forthcoming visit to Romania to provide further clarification after the investigation is completed.
