Romanian President Nicușor Dan urges minority government to break political deadlock
President Nicușor Dan made an unannounced visit to Cluj‑Napoca on Wednesday evening, joining a closed‑door dinner of the Techsylvania tech event and meeting local citizens and IT sector representatives. He then travelled to Poland to attend the Helsinki Format summit in Gdańsk, where defence issues with Russia were on the agenda.
On the same day Dan posted on Facebook about the outcome of talks with parliamentary parties at Cotroceni Palace, proposing a “minority political government” built on a pre‑agreed parliamentary support pact. He urged the parties to negotiate quickly, stressing the need for a functioning majority and for Romania to remain on a pro‑Western course. Dan wrote, “Ma egyeztetéseket folytattam a pártokkal és parlamenti csoportokkal a politikai válság feloldására.” The previous attempt to form a government failed when Adrian Veștea fell short of the required votes; a second failure could lead to the dissolution of parliament and early elections.
