Romanian regulators impose hefty fines on construction sites in Brașov and Timișoara

The Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM) in Brașov applied fines totaling 74,500 lei after a series of inspections of construction sites under a national occupational safety and health campaign that runs until early December 2026. Inspectors carried out 36 controls, sanctioning 10 employers with 23,500 lei in safety‑related fines and issuing three warnings. They also identified three workers performing undeclared labour and imposed additional penalties of 51,000 lei for violations such as missing safety plans, lack of worker training, and failure to record working time.

In Timișoara, the local police intensified site checks, completing 289 inspections and issuing 203 contraventional penalties worth 764,500 lei. Frequent breaches involved damage to green spaces, inadequate site fencing, improper waste handling, and failure to restore public areas after work. The highest fine, 40,000 lei, was levied against a contractor for not separating construction waste for recycling. Other fines ranged from 2,500 to several thousand lei for illegal dumping and lack of signage.
