Romanian regulators levy fines after extensive labor and consumer safety inspections

In May 2026, labour inspectors in Olt County carried out 236 workplace checks across construction, retail, freight and passenger transport. They recorded more than 265 violations, including unpaid wages, missing weekly rest, delayed contract registration, lack of written contracts, absent personal protective equipment and omitted medical examinations. Authorities issued 112 sanctions – 103 warnings and nine fines totalling 83,000 lei – and fined one employer 40,000 lei for employing an undeclared worker.

During the first five days of June 2026, the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) inspected over 1,300 economic operators, including 180 child‑focused amusement venues. Inspectors imposed 817 fines worth more than 3.6 million lei and issued 612 warnings. They ordered the permanent removal of non‑conforming products valued at 157,000 lei, temporarily halted other unsafe items worth 174,000 lei, and suspended the activity of 28 operators until deficiencies were remedied.
