Romanian religious events: Historian Ioan‑Aurel Pop at Moldovița Monastery and Metropolitan Antonie in Criuleni

Academician Ioan‑Aurel Pop, President of the Romanian Academy, delivered a conference titled “The language of the old cantors or religious communication in the Middle Ages” at Moldovița Monastery in Suceava County on 23 July 2026. The event, organized with the blessing of Archbishop Calinic of Suceava and Rădăuți, highlighted the role of medieval sermons, translations and church books in shaping the Romanian cultural language.

Later the same day, Metropolitan Antonie, Archbishop of Chișinău and Metropolitan of Bessarabia, visited the Protopopiatul Criuleni and Dubăsari. He celebrated the Divine Liturgy, blessed a new mortuary chapel of the parish “Saints Constantine and Elena” in Cimișeni, and addressed local clergy and officials. In his address he said, “God knows better than we the road, the need and the trial of each one and works with patience in a person’s life… Peace of the soul becomes stronger than any disturbance.” The visits underscored ongoing pastoral work and the fostering of community ties across the Romanian‑Moldovan region.
