Romanian rescue teams assist injured tourists in Piatra Craiului and Semenic mountains

Two SMURD helicopter crews were deployed to the Piatra Craiului National Park in Brașov County after a climber from Zărnești suffered a leg injury on the “La Lanțuri” trail. A subsequent call reported a tourist struck on the head by a falling stone in the Padinile Frumoase area. Strong winds prevented the aerial evacuation of a medic and the injured tourist, prompting ground rescue efforts by POA Mureș and POA Brașov crews.

In a separate incident in the Semenic Mountains of Caraș‑Severin County, an Austrian motorcyclist was seriously injured in a motocross accident. Mountain gendarmes arrived first, provided first‑aid and stabilised an open fracture of the rider’s leg. SMURD later evacuated the victim to a medical facility for specialist treatment. Authorities urged tourists and recreational athletes to exercise caution and use the emergency number 112 when needed.
