CNAIR sets October 2026 start for electronic toll and rovinieta system in Romania

The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) announced that Romania’s electronic road‑toll system – the Electronic Road Toll System (STRR) – and the TollRo scheme will be ready by 31 August 2026. The infrastructure will be installed on the European Road Toll Service (SETRE) domain, and the collection of fees will be handled through STRR.

Tariffs for the rovinieta and TollRo will be applied from 1 October 2026. TollRo is intended for vehicles with a maximum authorised total mass (MTMA) exceeding 3.5 tonnes and for mixed‑transport vehicles, which will be treated as freight vehicles for toll purposes. Interoperability with other EU electronic toll systems via SETRE is scheduled to become operational on 15 January 2027, under the provisions of Law no. 170/2026 together with Law no. 226/2023.
