Romania to launch electronic road tolls, warns of illegal vignette site

The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) announced that Romania will introduce the Electronic Road Toll System (STRR) and the TollRo scheme for heavy‑goods vehicles. The infrastructure will be ready by 31 August 2026 and the collection of rovinieta (vignette) and TollRo fees will start on 1 October 2026. Fees will be gathered electronically through the European Road Toll Service (SETRE), and the system will become interoperable with other EU toll‑collection platforms from 15 January 2027.

CNAIR also warned that an unauthorised Hungarian portal, evignet24.eu, owned by Enternova Kft., is selling Romanian roviniete at inflated prices. The site charges €76 for a 12‑month car vignette (the legal price is €50), €144.5 for a freight vehicle up to 3.5 t (legal €114), and €143 for micro‑buses or caravans (legal €50), among other overcharges. The portal also lists fees for vehicle categories that Romanian law does not differentiate, such as trailers. CNAIR advises drivers to purchase vignettes only via the official portal erovinieta.ro or through authorised distributors to avoid excessive charges.
