Romanian seaside resorts trace historical roots from Eforie to Costinești

The history and development of the Romanian seaside resorts, particularly Eforie and Costinești, are highlighted through archival records. Eforie, formed by the merging of North and South Eforie in 1966, holds significance as one of Romania's first seaside resort areas.

Its origins trace back to the 1890s when Moldavian boyar Ioan Movilă commissioned the construction of a hotel between the Black Sea and Lake Techirghiol. The establishment of the Movilă Hotel in 1899 marked the beginning of the Techirghiol-Movilă tourist center, the first such hub in Dobruja. The area also became known for its medicinal mud from Lake Techirghiol, leading to the construction of hospitals in the late 19th century.

Costinești is noted as another significant resort, with roots extending back to ancient Greek times, though it remained a small fishing village inhabited primarily by Dobrujan Germans until the 1940s.
