Romanian Senate adopts stricter rules for category B driving exams

The Romanian Senate has adopted a draft law that would introduce stricter requirements for obtaining a category B driving license. Under the proposed legislation, candidates for the practical exam will be required to perform four specific technical maneuvers without exception: reversing, turning the vehicle, parking in real traffic conditions, and controlled stopping.

Currently, examiners select at least two maneuvers from a list of basic skills, which has led to inconsistencies in testing. The new law aims to eliminate this variability by making all four maneuvers mandatory. While the Senate approved the project with 74 votes in favor, seven against, and 17 abstentions, the law must still pass through the Chamber of Deputies.

Specific technical details, such as the exact scoring scale and the conditions for executing these maneuvers on public roads, have not yet been finalized. Following the law's promulgation and publication in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have up to 90 days to establish the necessary methodological norms and evaluation criteria.
