Romanian Senate re-examines pig transport and confiscation laws

The Romanian Senate is re-examining legislation regarding pig farming and transport regulations. The project, identified as official file L415/2026, has returned to Senate committees following a request for modification by the President.

A key point of contention involves the mandatory confiscation of vehicles used for transporting pigs without proper sanitary-veterinary documentation. The previous version of the bill proposed that transporting six or more animals without valid documents would result in the confiscation of both the livestock and the vehicle, alongside fines between 10,000 and 15,000 lei. The President requested a reformulation of this measure to ensure that vehicle confiscation is not applied automatically without considering the specific gravity of the offense.

Other provisions under review include regulations regarding wild boar management, specific testing protocols, and 10 km zones. The Senate is expected to submit reports on these matters by September 9.
