Romanian Survey Finds 8 in 10 Fear Financial Instability

A recent UNSAR‑IRES barometer surveyed 1,026 Romanians aged 18‑50 between 21 April and 5 May 2026. Eight‑in‑ten respondents said they worry about possible events that could harm their jobs or income, making financial instability the top concern, ahead of risks to home and possessions (77%) and health/life (72%).

Half of those surveyed (55%) also expressed anxiety about social, political or global developments, reflecting the current economic and geopolitical climate. Interest in protection products is rising: 57% of respondents prioritize home insurance (up 2 percentage points), while travel and voluntary health policies each attract 48% interest, and life insurance climbs to 43% (up 4 pp).

According to Alexandru Ciuncan, President and General Director of UNSAR, the data shows growing awareness of how unexpected events—such as extreme weather and fires—affect family finances, driving demand for housing, health and life coverage. The main incentives for taking out voluntary policies are higher incomes (36%), tax advantages (26%) and better information about insurance benefits (24%).
