Romanian survey finds over 80% view taxes as excessive and savings depleted
A study conducted by the APSAP Training Center between August 2025 and June 2026 surveyed 3,308 respondents from all regions of Romania. About 81.7% said the tax burden is excessive, while only 11.2% disagreed and 7% did not answer.
Only 20.2% view the current fiscal policy direction as positive; 50.6% judge it wrong and 29.3% see no clear strategy. Nearly 72% believe state institutions do not adequately support the business environment.
Financial pressure is evident: 39.1% report having spent their savings in the past 12 months to cover expenses, and 15.1% say they have no savings left. A smaller share saved modestly (22.5%) or even increased savings (4.9%).
Regarding the European Union’s influence, 44.7% consider EU‑mandated measures beneficial, whereas 33.8% see them as detrimental to citizens.
