Romanian Survey Shows Strong Favorability for Moldova's President Maia Sandu
A poll conducted by INSCOP Research between 14‑21 April 2026 surveyed 1,100 Romanian adults. It found that 68.8 % of respondents hold a good or very good view of Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, and 71.3 % believe she is closer to Romania than to Russia.
The same survey ranked foreign leaders by the level of trust Romanians place in them. French President Emmanuel Macron leads with a 32.9 % trust rating, followed by Sandu at 28.6 %. Former U.S. President Donald Trump comes third with 24.8 % trust, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz trail at 23.7 % and 20.9 % respectively.
