Romanian teachers to see salary increases and career bonuses

Romanian educators are set to receive various financial updates regarding salaries and career bonuses. According to simulations for the latest salary law, teachers with over 25 years of seniority could see an increase of at least 2,000 lei in their income starting September 1, 2027. Interim Labor Minister Dragoș Pîslaru noted that shifting the implementation of the new education salary grid from January to September 2027 aims to align with the start of the school year and reduce the budgetary impact for the 2027 fiscal year.

Separately, nearly 109,000 teachers have already had their cards loaded for the didactic career bonus, valued at 1,500 lei net. The Ministry of Investments and European Projects has warned that pre-university educators must activate these cards by August 31, 2026, to access the funds. At least 975 lei of the bonus must be spent on professional training courses, while the remainder can be used for educational resources, books, or software. For those continuing their activity in the 2026-2027 school year, the period to use these funds has been extended until August 31, 2027.
