Romanian telecom subscriptions face potential price hikes

Telecommunications, internet, and cable subscriptions in Romania may face price increases starting in 2027. An analysis by Economica.net suggests that real bill increases could exceed 10% and potentially reach 13%, depending on inflation, exchange rates, and operator calculation mechanisms.

Many operators hold contractual rights to periodically index tariffs based on inflation. For subscriptions priced in euros, such as those from Orange and Vodafone, customers may face a dual impact: the inflation indexation applied to the euro price and subsequent fluctuations in the leu-euro exchange rate when the final bill is converted to local currency.

Separately, Orange România is updating its fixed fiber optic internet offerings. The company is migrating existing customers from the 'Fibră 500' plan to 'Fibră 600' at no additional cost. This new base tier offers download speeds of up to 600 Mbps and upload speeds of 300 Mbps, according to commercial listings, though some contractual documentation still cites lower maximum speeds during the gradual technical migration.
