Romanian theater competitions launch Gala HOP and DbutanT festivals

The 29th edition of the Gala HOP (Young Actor Gala) begins on August 27 at the Constanța State Theater. Organized by UNITER, the competition features 25 young actors who have undergone artistic training at the Pre-HOP Camp in Piatra Neamț. Under the artistic direction of Silviu Purcărete, this year’s theme focuses on metamorphosis. The competition includes a free probe featuring monologues and group performances, as well as a mandatory four-minute segment titled ‘SEMNĂTURĂ. BEST OF’, where contestants demonstrate their individual artistic identity.

Simultaneously, the 11th edition of the DbutanT Festival, dedicated to scenography, has selected seven young scenographers to advance in the competition. Due to the high quality of applications, the organizers expanded the selection from five to seven participants. These artists will participate in the International Program in Scenography (IPS) – BIRD IN SPACE from August 24 to September 6 in Ovidiu. Working alongside artists from 16 countries, they will develop site-specific performance installations under the guidance of various mentors. The results will be presented to the public on September 5.
