Zakynthos: Missing Romanian tourist found dead in olive grove

A 16-day search operation on the Greek island of Zakynthos has ended in tragedy following the discovery of the body of Silvia Lungu Gabriella, a 64-year-old Romanian tourist. The woman had been missing since September 11 after she was last seen on security footage in the center of Alykanas.

Her body was discovered on Sunday, September 27, in an olive grove in the Kastelia area of Ano Gerakari by a local resident performing agricultural work. The body was found in a state of decomposition, approximately three kilometers from the location where she was last seen.

Authorities have stated that, at this stage, criminal activity has been ruled out. The search operation involved extensive resources, including the police, fire service, Civil Protection, drones, and specialized EMAC teams with trained dogs and divers. The body will be transported to Patras for a forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
