Romanian towns celebrate youth excellence with events in Slatina and Găești
On 16 July 2024 the ALRO Stadium in Slatina hosted "Împreună pentru Excelență", a ceremony organised by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, ALRO Slatina and the Association for the Support of Excellence in Sport. The event marked the 50th anniversary of Nadia Comăneci’s perfect 10 at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and featured speeches from sports figures such as Mihai Covaliu and Ana Maria Brânză. Local officials, including the prefect of Olt County and the mayor of Slatina, attended, underscoring the community’s focus on hard work, perseverance and discipline.
Later in the year, the city of Găești held the inaugural Gala Excellence in Education during its City Days. Mayor Alexandru Iorga praised the attendees, saying, "Education is the most valuable investment we can make for the future, and our children are our greatest hope." Around 500 people gathered to honour students who achieved top results at national olympiads and competitions, as well as their teachers, parents and school directors. The gala aims to become an annual tradition that highlights local talent and dedication to learning.
