Romanian towns Oțelu Roșu and Ovidiu receive funds for street and park upgrades

In Oțelu Roșu, the local administration is carrying out two street‑modernisation projects financed with 18.5 million lei from the national Anghel Saligny programme. Works involve resurfacing and rebuilding sidewalks on multiple arteries, including Cireșelului, Scărișoarei, 1 Mai and others, as well as a three‑kilometre communal road to the village of Mal. Mayor Grigore Goja said progress is “timid” due to funding delays, but aims to finish all works by year‑end, with additional summer paving in the Baia neighbourhood once a 6.5 million‑lei contract is awarded.

Meanwhile, the city of Ovidiu secured an €800,000 grant to implement the project “Improving quality of life through regeneration of degraded urban spaces.” The plan will transform a 5,000‑square‑metre abandoned plot into a modern public park featuring green areas, pedestrian paths, playgrounds and leisure zones. Mayor George Scupra emphasized that the development will provide a new recreational space for residents and is part of a broader strategy of sustainable urban regeneration.
