Romanian towns of Petrila and Petrești face separate apartment and chimney fires

On 23 May 2026, a fire broke out in a ground‑floor apartment in Petrila, Hunedoara County. Firefighters from the Petroșani Detachment, supported by volunteers, extinguished the blaze, which affected about 20 square metres, before it could spread to neighbouring rooms or dwellings. The cause is under investigation and no injuries were reported.

The following day, 24 May 2026, firefighters from the Sebeș Detachment responded to a fire at a chimney in an annex house on Zorilor Street, Petrești, Alba County. The incident was localized and is being fully extinguished. In the same period, a separate blaze involving hay bales was reported in Șard, also in Alba County, requiring a water‑and‑foam‑equipped fire engine.

All incidents were handled promptly by local emergency services, with no casualties recorded.
