Romanian Transport Minister Radu Miruță tackles train heat and ROMATSA funding crisis

Interim Transport Minister Radu Miruță said he has asked CFR Călători to review all maintenance contracts to determine which train sets are required to have air‑conditioning. He highlighted that 21 new train sets sit idle at Obor station while passengers on older units endure temperatures up to 37 °C, noting that Interregio trains must be equipped with climate control, whereas Regio units are not.

Miruță also addressed the financial strain on air navigation provider ROMATSA, saying the agency can operate for another 6‑8 weeks but will either receive budget funding or reach an agreement with Pfizer to resolve a debt claim of over 3.4 billion lei. The government plans to contest the enforcement action in Belgium while continuing negotiations with Pfizer to ensure uninterrupted air traffic services.
