Romanian UDMR leader Csoma Botond condemns President Nicușor Dan and stalled coalition talks

Csoma Botond, leader of the UDMR parliamentary group, criticised President Nicușor Dan for being “too much of a player” in politics, saying his recent prime‑ministerial appointment of Adrian Veștea makes him “even more of a player than former president Traian Băsescu” and urging the president to engage more actively in building a governing majority rather than remain passive.

Botond also attacked the deadlock between the governing PSD and opposition PNL, likening their disputes to a “kindergarten fight” and warning that if parties do not compromise, Romania could go without a functional government for up to six months. He warned that the impasse fuels extremism, boosts the AUR party and erodes public confidence, and called for an extraordinary parliamentary session to pass legislation linked to the PNRR and SAFE programmes.
