Romanian Vice Premier Oana Gheorghiu condemns cyber attacks on public services
Romanian authorities reported a wave of cyber attacks that disrupted several public‑service systems in recent days. Acting Vice Premier Oana Gheorghiu described the incidents as "unacceptable" and said preliminary investigations have uncovered possible procedural shortcomings and a lack of coordination among state institutions responsible for digital security.
She said the immediate priority is to restore the affected services only after guaranteeing they can operate safely. Experts from the relevant agencies are working to bring systems back online, verify data integrity and eliminate identified vulnerabilities. Gheorghiu called for unified cybersecurity standards, regular audits, tested backups, continuity plans and stronger coordination across the whole public administration to prevent similar incidents in the future.
