Romanian villages combat vegetation fires with firefighters and local volunteers

Two separate vegetation fires erupted in Romania during a spell of hot, dry weather. In the communes of Duda‑Epureni and Băcani in Vaslui County, flames consumed roughly 500 m² and 4,000 m² of dry plant material. Firefighters from the Huși and Bârlad stations responded quickly, preventing the fires from reaching nearby houses. Authorities said the most probable cause was open fire in open spaces and issued prevention advice, urging people not to use open flames for land cleaning, avoid discarding lit cigarettes, and call emergency services at 112 if a fire is spotted.

In Largu commune, a vegetation fire threatened homes and prompted a joint response from municipal fire crews and the local football team Unirea Largu. Mayor Florin Pasăre thanked the volunteers, noting that the team often assists in emergencies. He warned residents to act responsibly to avoid igniting further fires.

Both incidents highlight the heightened risk of wildfires in Romania’s summer conditions and the role of emergency services and community members in limiting damage.
