Romania's ANRE approves national register for energy communities, enabling shared solar power

The National Energy Regulation Authority (ANRE) has green‑lighted the creation of a National Register of Energy Communities in Romania. The new framework allows owners of photovoltaic panels – individuals, local authorities, SMEs and other entities – to form registered associations that can produce, store, consume and trade electricity among members, such as neighbours, apartment blocks or whole districts. By sharing locally generated solar power, participants could lower their electricity bills, increase energy independence and stimulate further investment in renewable installations.

Analysts say that beyond the regulatory change, rooftop solar brings additional household advantages. Homeowners experience greater protection against future price spikes, more flexibility in using electric appliances, and a boost in property values, making solar installations an attractive long‑term asset for Romanian residents.
