Romania's ANRE approves over 325 MW of new energy capacity, mainly storage

The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) in Romania granted commercial operating licences for more than 325 MW of new energy capacity. Approximately 177 MW is designated for electricity storage and around 149 MW for renewable generation.

ANRE President George Niculescu noted that about 1,600 MW of projects are pending review because they lack required grid‑connection certificates, urging distribution and transmission operators to speed up the process. The regulator’s committee meets twice weekly to shorten licensing times, with the next meeting scheduled for July 30. These approvals aim to bolster the National Energy System by integrating additional storage and green generation.

The move reflects Romania’s push to accelerate investments in battery storage and renewable power, addressing the need for balancing the grid as renewable penetration grows.
