Romania's AUR party keeps MPs active over summer, rejecting parliamentary break

The National Leadership Council of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) decided that its deputies and senators will not observe the parliamentary recess in July and August. Instead, the lawmakers will participate in the "AUR te aude!" (AUR hears you) campaign, traveling to counties to meet citizens, farmers, business representatives and local officials, and visiting factories, farms and other enterprises. The party says the purpose is to collect local problems and proposals that could be turned into legislative initiatives, noting that the idea of a summer break was rejected by the parliamentary majority.

In a separate commentary, AUR deputy leader Petrișor Peiu discussed the ongoing political deadlock after more than two months of attempts to form a government. He highlighted that many parliamentarians are on vacation, described AUR’s potential role in a future coalition, and outlined the party’s objectives of holding local elections and expanding its parliamentary representation. Peiu also mentioned possible steps such as a suspension of the president if a stable majority cannot be formed.
