Romania's CNAS reports drug payments current, seeks funds for April
The National Health Insurance House (CNAS) announced that as of 8 July 2026 it has fully paid drug reimbursements for March and aims to settle the April consumption by the end of July. The institute currently has funds for roughly 63 % of the estimated April amount and is seeking an additional 827 million lei from the Ministry of Finance to cover the shortfall. This statement follows the European Commission’s decision to refer Romania to the EU Court of Justice over historic delays in pharmacy payments; CNAS stresses that the case concerns past issues and does not reflect the present situation. CNAS also highlighted that average monthly drug consumption is about 2.4 billion lei—around 40 % of the National Health Insurance Fund’s total spending—and noted that it eliminated previous payment delays between October 2025 and April 2026.
