Romania's coalition proposes Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister
After days of negotiations, the liberal party PNL together with USR and UDMR announced support for europarliamentarian Siegfried Mureșan as their candidate for prime minister. PNL president Ilie Bolojan highlighted Mureșan's experience managing EU funds and large investment budgets, describing him as a professional aligned with European values.
The three parties released a joint document outlining the new government's agenda, focusing on urgent financial issues such as the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the SAFE program, fiscal balance, OECD accession and ongoing reforms. The proposal comes amid a political deadlock following the dismissal of the previous Bolojan cabinet and a debate over pension policy, with analysts noting that neither a Mureșan‑led coalition nor a PSD‑led option appears ready to secure parliamentary approval at this stage.
