Romania's construction sector surges while Bucharest records over 9,600 property sales in May 2026
National statistics show Romania's construction activity jumped 11.7% in the January‑April 2026 period compared with the same stretch of 2025. Monthly data indicate a 14% rise from March to April, driven by a 17.3% increase in capital repairs, 17.1% growth in maintenance, and a 12.6% uptick in new builds. Residential projects posted the strongest advance at 15.8%, followed by engineering works at 13.9% and non‑residential structures at 12.9%.
In Bucharest, the National Cadastre and Real Estate Publicity Agency reported more than 9,600 real‑estate transactions in May 2026, accounting for roughly 70% of the capital’s total sales. Sector 1 led with 3,144 sales, while Sectors 3 and 2 recorded 2,112 and 1,627 transactions respectively. Average prices for new apartments were highest in Sectors 1 and 2 at €4,326 and €4,062 per square metre, and lowest in Sectors 4, 5 and 6 ranging from €2,374 to €2,384 per square metre.
