Romania's Focșani–Brăila Express Road Project Gets Expropriation Approval

The Romanian government approved a decree on 26 June 2026 authorising expropriation of land for the Focșani–Brăila express road. The measure covers 3,632 properties, of which 3,297 private holdings amounting to 8.5 million m², with compensation estimated at 36 million lei.

The road, the longest high‑speed segment to be built under a single contract, will link the A7 motorway, the Brăila Danube bridge, the Brăila‑Galaţi expressway and corridors toward Tulcea and Constanța. The project includes 57 bridges/viaducts, six major junctions, two short‑term parking areas and a service zone with fuel and food facilities. The construction consortium led by SA&PE CONSTRUCT, with TEHNOSTRADE, SPEDITION UMB and ARCADA COMPANY, received a contract worth 4.29 billion lei, financed by the Transport 2021‑2027 program.

Authorities expect the new route to reduce road accidents, travel times, emissions and operating costs while improving safety and traffic flow.
