Romania's fuel market sees cheapest diesel in Dâmbovița amid rising prices

Fuel prices in Romania have risen after the removal of the commercial‑margin cap and the return of the diesel excise to its pre‑temporary level, adding about 36 bani per litre. The average diesel price now sits near 9.54 lei per litre and gasoline at roughly 8.62 lei, although the cheapest diesel (8.98 lei) can be found in Lungulețu, Dâmbovița, and the cheapest gasoline (8.49 lei) in Târgoviște.

The Competition Council notes the excise increase and warns that Romania’s fuel prices, which were previously below the EU average under the capped regime, are now converging with European levels. Government officials expect modest price relief in the second half of July as stocks bought at higher costs are replaced. One driver commented, “Fac un plin aproape în fiecare săptămână și orice scădere de 30‑40 de bani pe litru se simte la buget.”

The Council will publish a compliance report by the end of July and continue monitoring market developments.
