Romania's Health Ministry Proposes Over 7,800 New Medical Staff Positions
The Romanian Ministry of Health announced a proposal to unblock 7,805.5 positions across the national health system. The plan allocates 7,360 posts to hospitals and 445.5 to County Ambulance Services, including 336 doctor posts, 923 medical‑assistant posts, 823 auxiliary‑staff posts and 278 positions for pharmacists, biologists, biochemists and medical physicists. The ministry confirmed that all positions requested by ambulance services, psychiatric hospitals, high‑security hospitals and the prison health system have been fully deblocked.
Arad County Emergency Clinical Hospital reported a severe staffing shortfall, with 624 vacant posts out of an almost 3,000‑strong workforce. The hospital has asked the Ministry of Health for approval of 190 new positions, among them 28 doctors and 68 medical assistants, and indicated a need for a total of 283 medical assistants and 94 doctors to operate effectively.
In related health‑education news, the 2026 admission exam for Romanian medical schools set a record. More than 2,000 candidates applied for 1,947 places at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, of which close to 1,300 are funded by the state budget.
