Romania's Imported Used Cars Pose High Accident‑History Risk

A recent analysis by carVertical shows that 61.9% of imported used cars inspected in Romania have a recorded damage incident, compared with 53.1% for domestically used vehicles. The study found that 60.4% of the examined cars originated abroad, a share above the European average. Romanian buyers said 80.7% would prefer a vehicle with a clean history over a lower price, and only 10.7% rank price as their primary concern.

The report highlights the difficulty of obtaining reliable vehicle‑history data across borders, noting that many national databases are not linked. This gap allows cars with repaired crash damage or altered mileage to enter the market without full disclosure, raising safety and maintenance concerns. Experts warn that the lack of a unified European vehicle database hampers transparency and increases the risk of fraud for consumers.
