Romania's IT and Oil Sectors Lead Salary Gains in First Half of 2026
In the first six months of 2026, Romania's IT sector recorded the highest average net monthly salary at 8,000 lei, a rise of about 5% compared with the same period in 2025. The oil and gas industry followed with an average of 7,000 lei, while research and development earned 6,800 lei and construction 6,500 lei.
Salario, the eJobs salary comparator, notes that employee salary expectations exceed actual earnings by roughly 30% across the board. The gap is most pronounced in IT, where candidates expect an average of 11,993 lei—about 50% higher than offers. Other sectors show expectation gaps of 40‑42%.
The lowest‑paid fields are retail (4,300 lei), the food industry (4,500 lei), call‑center/BPO (4,400 lei), transport and logistics (5,000 lei), and general services (5,500 lei). The au pair and babysitting segment registers the smallest average salary at 3,300 lei per month.
