Romania's Operation Jupiter crackdown leads to mass raids and arrest of prostitution facilitator

The Romanian Prosecutor's Office and the General Inspectorate of Police carried out Operation Jupiter 5 on 12 June 2026. The nationwide action involved 32 operative moves, 56 domicile searches and 18 summonses, uncovering crimes such as tax evasion, fraud, counter‑feiting, wildlife poaching and illegal arms handling. Authorities reported a total damage estimate of 16 052 290 lei and seized documents, financial records and other evidence to support prosecutions.

In parallel, investigators detained a 37‑year‑old man from Cireșoaia after raids in Bistrița‑Năsăud and Cluj. The suspect is accused of facilitating prostitution for a woman in Bistrița‑Năsăud since 2020 by renting apartments, arranging transport and advertising services online, and profiting from the illicit activity. He was held for 24 hours pending a judicial decision.
