Romantic minimalism emerges as a new interior design trend

A new interior design trend known as ‘romantic minimalism’ is emerging as a way to soften the traditionally clinical feel of minimalist spaces, particularly in bathrooms.

Rather than relying solely on all-white, glossy surfaces and harsh graphic lines, this approach emphasizes a balance between pared-back simplicity and soft, elegant details. Key elements include soft color palettes, earthy tones, and the introduction of textures or motifs such as florals and textiles to create a more restorative and personal environment.

According to editor Hugh Metcalf, the aesthetic relies on contrast, using a minimalist backdrop to highlight decorative accents like floral motifs or jewelry-like glitz. Designer Bianca Serrao Jones has demonstrated this through schemes using warm, grounding colors like burgundy and ochre to create an inviting atmosphere within a minimalist framework.
