Interior design trends shift from minimalism to Art Deco

Interior design trends are transitioning toward deeper color palettes and more textured, minimalist aesthetics. Influenced by Paris industry events like Maison&Objet, the shift moves away from sage green in favor of dark chocolate, earthy tones, and deep blues. This evolution includes ‘warm minimalism,’ which utilizes materials such as linen, bouclé wool, Berber rugs, natural wood, matte leather, blown glass, and chrome to provide comfort within clean volumes. This has expanded into ‘romantic minimalism,’ a method used to soften traditionally clinical spaces, particularly bathrooms. Rather than relying on all-white, glossy surfaces, this approach uses soft palettes, floral motifs, and earthy schemes like burgundy and ochre. By autumn 2026, trends appear to be shifting further toward an opulent Art Deco style, with a growing desire for geometric shapes, metallic accents, and saturated colors such as bordeaux, sapphire blue, emerald green, and aubergine. Alongside this movement, autumn decor is emphasizing warmth and natural textures. This includes the return of dark woods like walnut and oak to provide depth, alongside nature-inspired shades such as terracotta, camel, chocolate, and olive green. Furniture design is also moving toward softer, fluid shapes—including rounded sofas and oval tables—while incorporating materials like rattan, wicker, jute, ceramics, and stone to achieve a serene aesthetic. Recent autumn trends further emphasize creating cozy, sensory environments through natural materials such as linen, washed cotton, soft textured wools, artisanal ceramics, and natural stone. Color palettes are moving toward enveloping neutrals like off-white, sand, and taupe, complemented by Mediterranean-inspired tones such as earth browns, soft terracottas, and grayish blues.
